A recent article in Vox at https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/22716264/memory-science-memorability highlights recent research in memorability, an area of memory research that focuses on why we remember what we remember. The article reviews most of the concepts we introduce in chapter 10, such as the different types of memory. The research surprisingly shows that there is a commonality to what we will remember that transcends individuals, age (babies exhibit it also!), and even species (monkeys remember the same types of things as individuals. Late in the article, the researchers speculate about what memorability research might mean for music. For sound designers and composers, memorability, as we discuss in chapter ten, seems to be something of a holy grail for compositions to which we attach ideas.
